Apple Watch & UnitedHealthcare Program Lets Customers Earn Money by Walking

UnitedHealthcare is allowing their customers a chance to earn back some money in their Wellness Incentive Program by integrating it with the Apple Watch.

How does the program work?

The health insurance company is offering their customers an incentive to exercise for a chance to earn back some money.  It's quite simple.  Walk and meet the daily walking goals and earn up to $1460 back for that year.

Anyone enrolled in the Motion Wellness Program can get an Apple Watch after just paying taxes and shipping and will have the option of applying their earnings from the program toward buying the wearable device.  All earnings after that are deposited into their accounts to help cover out of pocket medical expenses.

What are the daily walking requirements?

Their daily goals are called FIT (Frequency, Intensity, and Tenacity).

Frequency: Walk 500 steps within 7 minutes (six times a day, at least one hour apart).

Intensity:  Walk 3,000 steps within 30 minutes.

Tenacity:  Walk 10,000 steps in one day

Meeting these daily goals will earn you $3 - $4 a day, potentially earning you back between $1095 and $1460 per year.

By being apart of their Motion Program, you'll not only feel the financial benefits but you'll feel the health benefits as well.

Some research suggests that walking more and staying active everyday can help you:

  • stay at a healthy weight
  • prevent or manage certain conditions, such as heart disease, high blood pressure and type-2 diabetes
  • strengthen bones
  • decrease feelings of depression
  • improve balance and coordination

@Clark J. there is no way you can earn 2x the money by running instead of walking. There is a cap of how much money you can earn in a year.

  • Clark J,

I’ve owned an Apple Watch for about 2 years and have actually used the UnitedHealthcare for about a month so far. I actively try to meet their FIT requirements every day but sometimes have to miss a couple days since I commute long hours to walk full time. Other than that, I’ve earned twice as money by running instead of walking.
