AppleOS 3.1.1 Issues Prompt Apple to Pull Update
Earlier this week, Apple released a new update for AppleOS for the Apple Watch. But now, users are complaining of bricked devices rendering them useless.
This update issue seems to only be affecting Apple Watch Series 2 users.
If after the update, you notice a bright red exclamation mark and a link to Apples help page, you must try and perform a forced reboot.
You can do this by:
- Pressing and holding both the side button and Digital Crown for about 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo appear.
- If the Apple logo doesn't appear, you need to have the Watch serviced.
If the Apple logo does not appear, then unfortunately your iWatch has been temporarily bricked. You will have to take it into the nearest Apple store to resolve the issue.
If you see no exclamation mark, then congratulations you survived the update!
If you haven't updated yet, then you'll have to wait til Apple re-releases the update as it has been temporarily pulled for the time being. It's likely they are just trying to fix the error and that the pull is not permanent. The underlying reason for the update problem remains unknown, and we're not sure if we'll ever find out.
The update was originally released to improve on decreasing app loading times as well as improving tweaks that make finding 3rd party apps easier. Among other minor tweaks were other bug fixes and new emoji. The new fixed update should be released soon enough.
